Collaborative Practice Pilot
A Collaborative Practice Pilot program for community pharmacy was established by HB 6970 in the 2005 CT General Assembly legislative session. Regulations were written by the Department of Consumer Protection and approved in early 2006. The pilot consists of 10 pharmacists who perform collaborative practice (working with physicians on patient drug therapies) for a period of two years. The pilot is limited to seven disease states: diabetes, asthma, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, osteoporosis, congestive heart failure and smoking cessation. Currently, CT allows collaborative practice in all settings except community pharmacy. This pilot is intended to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of collaborative practice in the community setting in Connecticut. The Pharmacy Commission is responsible for recruiting the 10 pharmacists for the pilot project. They released the application form for the pilot project in March 2006.
